Michelle & Nicholas Wedding

Meant to Be Marriage

 Willow Ridge Manor Summer Wedding

From the moment Michelle and Nicholas walked into my studio for our first consultation I could tell they were awesome. They were both warm, exuberant and totally, completely in love. It might sound cheesy to tell, but they couldn’t stop staring into one another’s eyes and swooning. They were so polite and respectful of one another, allowing each to tell parts of their story as we got to know each other.

Every interaction after that, from the contract signing to the rehearsal to the wedding day itself was no different. They were 100% genuinely happy and friendly and in love. Their attitudes were such a pleasure to be around. Chris didn’t get to meet them until the wedding day. I always give him a run-down of what to expect. “The groom is going to be super nice to you as soon as you walk in. Don’t be alarmed. He’s really that nice. He’ll probably give you a hug.”

They were so excited to marry each other, yet both totally laid back on the afternoon of the wedding at Willow Ridge Manor. No stress or nerves apparent. Just happiness and excitement. Their natural and genuine smiles were so much fun to photograph. My favorite part of the day was when Nicholas first saw Michelle walking down the aisle. I’ve never seen a reaction like that! He was smiling and enamored and bawling all at once. Best groom’s face ever.

The reception was full of little touches representing the couple. Michelle surprised Nicholas with a video she made of herself singing to him and playing the Ukulele (for real)! Definitely brought tears to the crowd and more happy crying from Nicholas. Their favors were a miniature message in a bottle filled with inspirational bible quotes. Instead of bouquet/garter tosses they simultaneously threw mini treasure boxes filled with more well wishes and favorite bible quotes. They danced and spent time with their guests and generally enjoyed their day from start to finish. It was a true honor capturing their wedding!

RiNo Art Safari Street Photography

Artists in Action Denver Street Photography

The RiNo (River North) Art District has been the home to CMH Photography since Autumn 2013. Since that time I have fallen more and more in love with the neighborhood. Being in an Art District means it’s eclectic. Artists of every style and medium, mixed with trendy restaurants, laid back bars and constant community improvements and growth.

In May our community hosted the RiNo Art Safari. Studios were open, places offered special deals and there was a historic bus tour available. It was a hot day (yay!) but I wandered through the galleries and met some amazing people. Some of them were kind enough to share their stories and let me create images of them in their space.

The artists pictured include:

Located in the Dry Ice Factory Studios:

Laura Guese – Painter

Neal Murphy – Potter

Located in Wazee Union:

Annabel Reader  - Costume Designer, Stilt Performer

Nikki Nation – Contemporary Jewelry

On my street photography journey I also had the pleasure of meeting some more amazing artists not pictured here. Being a hat addict I was super excited to finally meet Susan with Kitty Mae Millinery and purchased an awesome creation from her. I purchased some stellar earrings made by Rebecca with Pop Rock DesignsI enjoyed the unique and cool artwork from Roxanne Rossi, and the beautiful silk dyed fabrics at Steve Sells Studio. I highly recommend going to the studios in the RiNo Art District and checking them out for yourselves!

Suzy & Robb Spring Engagement Session

Elk Meadows Spring Engagement Session

Suzy and Robb are a great laid back couple. When deciding on an Engagement Session location they suggested Elk Meadows dog park so that they could bring their dogs. I always love including a couple’s dog in their session, but it was a new experience having three dogs to include! Luckily the dogs were as fun and laid back as the couple and we all had a great time.

The day of their session was one of those moody Colorado spring days, where one minute it’s sunny and beautiful and the next it’s hailing. We didn’t know what to expect, but decided to just take our chances with the weather. Being who they are the couple just ran with it, no complaints.

We began our hike with the pups and started down a beautiful trail. Eventually we came to an open meadow surrounded by trees. As I suggested they head up the hill the rain started to come down. But no worries, it was one of those Colorado storms where it’s sunny and rainy at the same time. Suzy threw her hair back in a ponytail and said “I’m good.” The light was lovely and the rain didn’t last long.

The rest of the session proceeded without incident and we were treated to a lot of great views and a nice hike. We look forward to an equally as fun and relaxed wedding later this month!

Whitney & Scott Spring Engagement Session

Spring Engagement Session in Morrison

Whitney and Scott’s Spring Engagement Session took place on a blustery, drizzling day in Morrison, Colorado. You might think the wind and rain would dampen a photo session, but not for this couple. They took advantage of the weather to get cozy and enjoy a romantic day together.

We met at Red Rocks at the Geological Trailhead. Managing to get a few photos in before the rain started, we then grabbed an umbrella and continued our session. The wind was crazy and we all felt like we were about to blow off the top of the mountain. As the rain got heavier we decided to head down into Morrison and find some more sheltered areas.

The session continued along the creek and in town. We found a lot of great nooks and crannies for photos, and ended our session at Al’s Coffee Shop. The barista, Clark, was full of stories and history on the area. He relayed his local knowledge while slowly and carefully crafting our beverages. He was more than obliging to have us make some images in the shop and we had fun as the only patrons.

Whitney & Scott’s wedding will take place in their hometown in Indiana in the fall. Congrats to this fun couple!

World Down Syndrome Day Part II

Global Down Syndrome Foundation’s I Love You Dance Party on World Down Syndrome Day 2014

One of my absolute favorite events to photograph is the GDSF‘s I Love You Dance Party. The second time I’ve had the honor of participating in this event which took place on World Down Syndrome Day this year. At Cherry Night Club in Cherry Creek young adults with and without Down Syndrome dance the night away together.

The World Down Syndrome Day events began at Colorado Children’s Hospital. Read more in Part I of this blog post. Guests and staff who attended both events had a few hours in between to get dressed up and ready to dance the night away.  I recognized a lot of the kids from previous GDSF events. It was fun to see them again and see how excited they were for this awesome dance party. The band that played at Children’s Hospital, The Ransom Notes, even showed up for a few dances. The evening included catered dinner, cupcakes and a signature cocktail/mocktail.
